We are currently organising an exciting project for 28th July 2012:
On 28th July, Cumbria Choral Initiative will perform the trilogy “The Song of Hiawatha” by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, accompanied by the Northern Chamber Orchestra. Ian Jones will be conducting and Nicholas Hurndall Smith, Nigel Dempster and Lesley Jane Rogers will be the soloists.
The concert will be part of the Lake District Summer International Music Festival, and will be performed at the Coronation Hall in Ulverston.
Ian Jones writes:
“Now that the fantastic success of New Year's Eve is behind us we can begin to focus on this next very exciting project. We currently have 30 sopranos, 25 altos, 12 tenors and 11 basses which is a very good start but a few more each of tenors and basses would be good so please keep recruiting if you can. Ideally I would like about 90 singers including 15 tenors and 15 basses. I'm not too worried if the numbers are slightly higher: there will be space on the Coronation Hall stage for a few more.
At the moment the intention is to have scores available at the first rehearsal.
Several of you have very kindly offered hospitality to those travelling a distance.
The CCI Committee is now busily working with LDSM to organise this project. We are hoping to arrange accompanying projects about Native Americans involving local schoolchildren, and there may be opportunities for us to present some of the choruses in schools before the date of the concert.”
The rehearsal schedule is as follows:
4 weekend rehearsals, in St Thomas’s Church, Stricklandgate, Kendal (opposite County Hall) on: May 25th, 26th, June 8th, 9th, 29th, 30th and July 13th,14th.
These will consist of: Fridays 7.15 - 9.45 and Saturdays 10.15 - 12.30 and 1.30 - 4.00.
We hope you will be able to commit to at least 2 of those weekends plus the final rehearsals below.
The final rehearsals will be in the Coronation Hall, Ulverston on Sunday July 22nd 1.30 - 4.30 and Saturday 28th 2.00 - 5.00
If you would like to sing in this event, please download and complete a registration form. Chorus membership will cost £20 and this will help to cover the cost of hiring the music, the accompanist and the rehearsal venues.
